Job Summary The Shelter Program Coordinator will assist guests who are experiencing homelessness and are often times struggling with substance abuse, trauma, physical or mental health. The Coordinator will work with the Shelter Manager, shelter staff, Community Partnership Manager, and other service providers. The Shelter Coordinator will be expected to assist with inclement weather, swing & overnight shelter services depending on business needs.
Salary The salary range for this position is
$20.66 - $27.90
per hour with a hiring range of
$20.66 - $24.28 , depending on qualifications and experience. This opportunity will remain open until filled.
Position Details This is a six (6) month maximum, temporary, 30+ hours per week position. Hours may include long onsite days, swing, or overnight shifts. The coordinator may be required to be on‑call for emergencies outside of standard business hours.
Essential Functions
Deliver onsite operations of the shelter program and/or alternate temporary accommodations (showers, restrooms, laundry, lockers, mail, computers).
Provide services consistent with our values, ensuring clients are treated with respect and dignity.
Assure the completion of proper daily opening and closing procedures.
Maintain a safe, controlled environment.
Work with Shelter Manager and onsite security team to observe and respond to member behaviors.
Respond to emergencies and coordinate crisis intervention when needed.
Create Risk Management incident reports.
Track and document negative behaviors using the shelter’s actions and consequences matrix.
Enter data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
Liaise with safety/security personnel to ensure all policies are followed.
Set up mats and cots for night shelter and store them in the morning.
Do laundry (lifting clothing, thick blankets, etc.) and place items around the facility.
Stock supplies.
Move abandoned property to appropriate areas at the sites.
Other Job Functions
Provide input to the Community Partnership Office and Shelter Manager to update processes and procedures.
Assist the Shelter Manager in community meetings, networking, and brainstorming solutions related to sheltering the homeless community.
Help create internal guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate Will

Be self‑motivated and proactive, using downtime constructively.
Bring personal experience with homelessness or related challenges.

Be able to be on‑call for emergencies outside of standard hours.
Qualifications
Education : High School or GED required.
Experience : Minimum six (6) months of related experience or training; preferred one year.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent interpersonal skills, teamwork, leadership, ability to be calm, tactful, and thoughtful under pressure; familiarity with people experiencing homelessness; excellent conflict resolution skills; ability to be on‑call for emergencies.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Frequent light to moderate physical effort, standing or walking frequently, and repetitive tasks with light objects and hand tools.
Exposure to typical office hazards; occasional exposure to predictable hazards.
