Associate in Instructional Services (Library Media Specialist) (NY HELPS) Base pay range:

$101,410.00/yr - $125,001.00/yr

Duties

Provide guidance and technical assistance to school personnel, BOCES, districts, parents, and other stakeholders on school library media programs and instructional supports to improve student learning and achievement.

Conduct research, synthesize and analyze quantitative and qualitative data, and write reports, grants, contracts, proposed regulatory and policy statements, guidance documents, and various informational materials.

Administer a variety of programs to support P‑12 teaching and learning, including competitive federal and State grant programs, contracts, and award programs, ensuring deliverables are on time and of high quality.

Develop and facilitate virtual and in‑person presentations to provide information, guidance, and support to strengthen school library media programs.

Communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen school library programs and support literacy, digital citizenship, and instructional technology initiatives.

Supervise staff as assigned.

Non‑Competitive Minimum Qualifications (NY HELPS)

Master’s degree.

New York State permanent or professional certification as a Library Media Specialist or School Media Specialist (Library).

Four years of full‑time classroom teaching experience as a School Library Media Specialist.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing and leading professional development workshops, courses, or programs.

Experience managing a grant program at a school/district level.

Leadership experience at the school or district level.

Up‑to‑date job knowledge maintained through participation in conferences, ongoing educational opportunities, and active affiliations with professional organizations related to school library programs.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and skill in fostering teamwork and building productive working relationships.

Ability to foster and maintain rapport with stakeholders and demonstrate an exceptional commitment to customer service and delivering quality outcomes.

Competitive Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree.

New York State permanent or professional certification as a Library Media Specialist or School Media Specialist (Library).

Four years of full‑time classroom teaching experience as a School Library Media Specialist.

One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Associate in Instructional Services (Library Media Specialist) OR eligibility under Section 70.1 Transfer with one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in any Professional Educator Title (Grade 26 or 28).

Current 55b/c eligibility letter if applying under the 55b/c appointment.

Conditions of Employment This position may be filled as a permanent, competitive or permanent, non‑competitive appointment. The appointed individual is required to maintain valid New York State teaching certification as a Library Media Specialist or School Media Specialist (Library) and to register their TEACH account every five years. Failure to maintain certification and registration will result in removal from employment. The role permits up to 30% telecommuting at the discretion of the supervisor and requires approximately 5% in‑state/Statewide travel.
