Key Responsibilities
Provide direct care to inmates in a correctional institution and deliver emergency care to staff while maintaining security requirements.
Assess and treat inmates within scope of practice.
Perform routine history and physical examinations where applicable.
Order and, if necessary, perform laboratory studies, X‑rays, and electrocardiograms as appropriate.
Initiate consultation requests and non‑formulary requests with supervisory physician’s approval.
Educate inmates regarding medical conditions, drug use, diet, weight control, and treatment effects.
Document all patient contacts in the medical record using Problem‑Oriented Medical Record format and SOAP charting.
Maintain confidentiality of medical records, order medications while adhering to the established formulary.
Participate in data collection for the CQI program and the CQI committee as needed.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by supervisor.
Key Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited program.
Current license to practice in the state where the facility is located.
Certified or eligible for certification in scope of practice.
Competent to perform responsibilities as defined by state practice act.
Current CPR certification.
