Key Responsibilities
Provide direct care to inmates and emergency care to staff while observing security requirements.
Offer appropriate health care and diagnose and treat inmates within scope of practice.
Perform routine history and physical examinations, order and, if necessary, perform laboratory studies, X‑rays, examinations, and electrocardiograms.
Initiate consultation requests and non‑formulary requests with supervisory physician’s approval.
Educate inmates relative to medical conditions, use of drugs, diet, weight control, and effects of prescribed treatment.
Document all patient contacts in medical record using Problem Oriented Medical Record format and SOAP charting.
Maintain confidentiality of medical records, order medications while adhering to the established formulary.
Participate in data collection of the CQI program and CQI committee, as needed.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested by supervisor.
Key Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited program.
Hold a current license to practice in the state where facility is located.
Certified or eligible for certification in scope of practice.
Competent to perform responsibilities as defined by state’s practice act.
Maintain current CPR certificate.
