Minimum Qualifications

Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.

Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) within 6 months of hire.

Must possess a current or temporary radiography license as required by the state board where services will be provided.

Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.

State criminal background check and federal background check as required.

License Requirements by State

MD: Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians.

OH: Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology.

PA: No state license is required.

WV: Radiography License, Temporary Radiography License or Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic CT License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.

Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year of experience as a computed tomography technologist.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare rooms, equipment, and materials for patient exams, including sterile technique, and clean and disinfect rooms after each exam.

Perform examinations per physician orders and explain procedures to patients; document any protocol variations and relay patient history to the radiologist.

Observe patients and equipment, report unusual occurrences, and assist with transportation as needed.

Document patient status in the radiology/CT procedure chart.

Maintain stock supplies, perform general office duties, and ensure proper film labeling and technique.

Practice safe radiation exposure and protection for patients, visitors, and staff.

Comply with departmental and hospital policies; participate in patient safety training and reporting of medical errors.

Produce diagnostic quality images using CT equipment and evaluate images for proper technique.

Perform diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment, C-Arm, and other equipment as ordered.

Provide care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Perform IV insertion/blood draws as needed.

Administer IV/oral/rectal contrast for CT imaging per protocol.

Use PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for review.

Complete all related duties assigned by the department manager or lead technologist.

Facilities With Specialty Accreditation Requirements

Complete annual specialized education related to accreditation; training may be via CBLs, in‑services, or competency validation.

Physical Requirements

Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling.

Must lift, move, and position patients of all weights, occasionally exerting force up to 100 pounds.

Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal range.

Working Environment

Exposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, sharps, cleaning agents, and disinfectants.

Exposure to high stress and constant interruptions.

Exposure to ionizing and non‑ionizing radiation.

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of growth and development and patient needs across the lifespan.

Understanding of biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, and cultural factors impacting care.

Knowledge of total patient care, including pain and symptom management for non‑curative cases.

Computed Tomography Clinical Ladder

Level 1: No experience required; technologists with less than 12 months of experience enter at Level 1.

Level 2: One year of experience; completes competency of Skill Set Tech 1.

Level 3: Three years of experience; completes Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and three additional skill sets; meets leadership requirements.

Level 4: Five years of experience; completes Skill Set Tech 1, 2, and five additional skill sets; meets leadership requirements.
