Medical Assistant I – Primary Care / Community Health (20 hours)
Location: Brookside Community Health Center, 3297 Washington Street, Boston, MA.
Schedule: Wednesday and Thursday, 8:00 am – 6:30 pm (Total 20 hours per week).
Overview The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non‑clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and providing patient education.
Essential Functions
Show patients to examination rooms, prepare equipment, interview patients to obtain medical information, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient’s medical record.
Explain treatment procedures, medications, diet, and physician instructions to patients; order and organize educational materials.
Perform general office duties such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms while acting as a liaison with other departments.
Collect laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare for testing; perform phlebotomy if competent.
Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates; administer immunizations (certification or 3 years of experience required).
Support departmental quality initiatives such as patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
About Brookside Community Health Center Brookside is a licensed Community Health Center of Brigham and Women’s Hospital providing comprehensive care in primary, family and pediatric primary care, OB/GYN, family planning, dental/oral surgery, nutrition/WIC, behavioral health, and specialty medicine. It serves over 11,000 patients annually and is a teaching site for several universities.
Qualifications
Language:
Spanish/English bilingual required.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in medical assisting preferred.
Experience:
Direct medical assistant or medical field work 1–2 years required; experience in lieu of a degree not accepted.
Licenses & Credentials:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred; Certified Medical Assistant (National certification) preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks in a busy environment.
Attention to detail and accuracy.
Compliance with privacy and confidentiality regulations.
Ability to take vital signs, manual blood pressure, and collect blood samples.
Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.

Time management for self and others.
