Salary Schedule – 2025/26:

Step 1 with a Master’s Degree: $57,820 + 10% variance ($5,782) = $63,602 (salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience; placement follows the negotiated agreement)

Position Purpose Providing services and support for families with children from birth to age 3 who have disabilities. Early Childhood Special Education, Early Development Network Speech Language Pathologists work with other disciplines to evaluate and address needs in cognition, language, motor, adaptive and social development through a coaching model. Services are delivered in the home, childcare settings and other natural environments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Minimum of Master’s degree in Speech Pathology.

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid NE Teaching Certificate with endorsement in Speech-Language Pathology, preferred.

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid NE DHHS Speech-Language Pathologist license, preferred.

Ability to obtain and maintain Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology, preferred (clinical fellowship year supervision may be provided).

Knowledge and experience with Augmentative Communication Devices and conducting Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) evaluations, preferred.

Excellent attendance record.

Professional verification of successful SLP performance and/or externship experience.

Evidence of willingness and ability to comply with standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education.

Skills to foster positive human relationships and to work effectively with infants and young children, staff, parents and the community.

Skills in organization, time management, communication, and positive interpersonal skills.

Ability to conform to professional dress and appearance standards.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Demonstrated philosophy that all children can and will learn.

Ability to evaluate infants and young children through formal assessment, observation, and parent report.

Ability to work collaboratively with team members to schedule and conduct home visits.

Ability to receive and share coaching strategies with colleagues and parents.

Ability to understand individual needs of each child and family.

Ability to conduct Routines-Based Interviews to gather information and develop Individualized Family Service Plans.

Ability to use Microsoft Outlook and the student information system.

Displays professionalism and confidentiality.

Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.

Knowledge of federal and state laws (Rule 52 & 51) concerning education and special education students.

Knowledge of OPS’s mission, purpose, goals and the role of every employee.

Essential Performance Responsibilities

Work closely with team members to evaluate and serve children and families.

Conduct evaluations to determine eligibility for Early Intervention.

Prepare Multidisciplinary Team Reports (MDT) on Infinite Campus.

Complete Routines-Based Interviews with families to identify primary areas of concern.

Assess infants and toddlers’ entry and exit data through Teaching Strategies GOLD.

Develop Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP).

Participate in MDT and IFSP meetings with team members and families.

Schedule and conduct home visits with parents/caregivers.

Coach families/caregivers to increase confidence and competence in facilitating child learning and development through daily routines.

Collaborate with community agencies serving children and families.

Support toddlers with a verification of Autism in a center-based setting.

Utilize Augmentative Communication Devices and conduct AAC evaluations.

Support families as they transition to center-based settings.

Work with and understand a diverse student population.

Plan for and guide the learning process to help children and families achieve program objectives.

Select and use effective instructional methods and learning materials.

Support ongoing curriculum development of the program.

Establish cooperative relationships with assigned families.

Maintain open lines of communication with parents, guardians and staff.

Engage in professional growth activities through ongoing job‑related knowledge and skill development.

Organize and maintain accurate record‑keeping and lesson planning and child progress toward IFSP goals per district procedures and laws.

Demonstrate compliance with ethical and professional standards established by district policy and the State Board of Education.

Collaborate to achieve the overall program purpose and support the District’s vision, aims and goals.

Additional Duties Perform other related tasks as assigned by Central Office Administrators and the Superintendent.

Equipment The position may require the ability to use assistive technology in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine. Must always comply with OPS’s equipment guidelines.

Travel Travel to homes and child‑care settings is required to provide IFSP services.

Provide quick, responsive customer service through phone contacts, written and direct communications.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance

Employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours unless approved leave has been received.

Any deviation from assigned hours must receive prior approval from the employee’s supervisor or building administrator.

Employees must report to work dressed in a manner reflecting a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and appropriate for their position.

Terms of Employment This position is a full‑time exempt certified role governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school, Board of Education policies, and the Teacher Contract. If represented by a collective bargaining representative, employment is also governed by the negotiated agreement between OPS and that representative.

Terms Of Employment Are Contingent Upon

Verification of a valid Nebraska Teaching License or other required license.

A background check demonstrating an acceptable background for the position and for working with or around students.

Verification of U.S. Citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States.

Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law).

Execution and delivery of a Teacher Contract presented by OPS.
