Brief Description Miami Jewish Health is one of the largest providers of healthcare and living options for aging adults in the Southeast. We operate Florida PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly) Centers, the largest PACE program in Florida, which serves as health plan, healthcare provider, and social center designed for older adults with complex medical needs. We have four adult day health centers that serve participants in Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

Job Title Occupational Therapist (Florida PACE Centers)

Job Summary Evaluates and treats patients to help restore or maintain their ability to perform activities of daily living. Establishes a treatment plan with interventions directed toward developing daily living skills, work readiness, play/leisure activities or enhancing educational performance skills. Teaches patients skills/techniques and how to use adaptive equipment for participating in activities of daily living. The occupational therapist considers sensory-motor integration, perceptual awareness, neuromuscular function, motivation, and cognitive or psychosocial components of performance. Provides supervision to support staff.

Essential Job Functions

Completes a comprehensive occupational therapy evaluation and plan of care

Develops a comprehensive treatment plan with goals that align with identified impairments for each participant to maximize potential

Begins discharge planning on evaluation and involves the patient, family and/or caregiver in establishing goals for rehabilitation and discharge planning, as evidenced in the documentation

Reviews patient’s status at regular intervals changes the treatment program as necessary

Participates in and provides in-service education to facilities, supportive staff, students, and the community

Attends both departmental and IDT (interdisciplinary team) meetings

Establishes a cooperative working relationship between the IDT, rehab team and members of the medical community

Supervises and trains support personnel

Documentation aligns with best practice standards and is accurate and timely

Identifies potential problem situations, intervenes appropriately, and communicates such events to supervisor

Performs related non-clinical services necessary to maintain the efficient operation of the department, and adjusts schedule as required

Demonstrates willingness to work across clinical service lines, including inpatient, outpatient, and PACE as needed

Education

Master’s degree preferred

Experience

One year experience in occupational therapy and experience working with the geriatric population

Licenses/Certifications

Florida licensed occupational therapist

Current BLS certification

Valid Florida Driver’s License

Proof of Insurance

Abilities Required

Current knowledge of safety issues needed in the treatment of patients, especially regarding body mechanics and body substance precautions to protect self, patients and personnel working with therapist

Effective written and oral communication skills Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Good problem solving and clinical judgment skills

Demonstrate ability to take initiative, be adaptable and work well independently

Be well organized, flexible, dependable, and punctual

Ability to work well with staff, individuals, and participants of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds

Must be computer literate (Microsoft Office, Excel)

Environment Work Conditions

Normal working condition with adequate lighting and ventilation

Proximity to moving mechanical parts, and housekeeping/cleaning agents

Infectious Material Exposure

Routine exposure to blood/body fluids/tissues

Physical Requirements

Demonstrates the ability to perform the following tasks without posing a threat to the health and safety of those involved (employee, co-workers, caregivers, patient): lift, turn, move, position and transport patients in and out of bed, chair, bathtub, wheelchair, lift, etc.

Sedentary tasks related to job 20%

Physical tasks- approximately 80%

Demonstrates the ability to perform a minimal assist transfer. Minimal assist transfers are defined for purpose of this document as the ability to lift and control 50 pounds

Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently and 20 pounds constantly. (Heavy physical demand)
