Psychologist, Level I City of New York invites applicants for the Psychologist, Level I position with the NYPD. This role focuses on psychological testing, interviews, and assessment of candidates for uniformed and civilian positions.

Responsibilities

Conduct psychological testing and interviews of candidates.

Administer, interpret, and report on standard group and individual tests of personality, intelligence, and clinical assessment.

Prepare psychometric findings and maintain accurate records of test results.

Provide recommendations based on evaluations to support the Department’s selection processes.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of two years of graduate work (at least 60 graduate semester credits) in psychology in an accredited graduate program leading to a doctoral degree in clinical, counseling, school, forensic, clinical health, or neuro‑psychology, plus two years of satisfactory full‑time experience under a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist.

A doctorate in one of the same clinical psychology fields from an accredited university.

Completion of a re‑specialization in clinical psychology from an accredited graduate program plus one year of full‑time experience as described in point (1).

Experience: Equivalent of 240 hours of supervised experience in personality testing, individual intelligence testing, and psychological/behavioral intervention (sufficiently supervised by a licensed psychologist, or under a licensed psychiatrist in the case of intervention).

Required coursework (three semester credits each) in personality testing, individual intelligence testing, psychopathology/abnormal psychology, and psychological/behavioral intervention from a program accredited by recognized accrediting bodies (U.S. Secretary of Education and CHEA).

Assignment Levels – Psychologist

Level I:

Valid NYS psychologist license. Minimum qualifications as above.

Level II:

All Level I requirements plus a doctorate from a NYS‑registered program and one additional year of supervised experience.

Level III:

All Level II requirements plus four years of satisfactory full‑time experience in clinical psychology, including at least one year under direct supervision and at least three years in a supervisory role as a licensed psychologist.

License Requirements – Assignment Level I

Valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education, maintained for the duration of employment.
