ED RN – Emergency Department Registered Nurse
Provides professional emergency nursing care for acutely ill and injured patients across all age groups, including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Acts as a patient advocate, preceptor, and liaison with other healthcare providers.
Employment Details
Type: Full Time – 36 hours per week
Shift Schedule: 12‑hour day shift (7 AM – 7 PM)
Shift Timing: Mid shift 10:30 – 2:30 PM
Rate: New Standardized RN Rate (exact amount omitted)
Essential Functions
Apply professional emergency nursing skills to care and treat the acutely ill and injured, utilizing the nursing process.
Promote patient‑centered care by respecting values, coordinating care, providing information, ensuring physical comfort, emotional support, involving family, and ensuring continuity.
Collaborate with patients, families, and ancillary departments to create a multidisciplinary team.
Plan and provide actual and anticipated education needs.
Communicate proactively the plan of care and patient status to the healthcare team.
Respond quickly, efficiently, and calmly to emergent and critical situations.
Manage complex care of critically ill and injured patients.
Triage patients per Emergency Department policies.
Document comprehensive, organized patient records.
Assist provider during examinations and procedures, anticipate patient needs.
Provide psychological support as needed.
Use multiple teaching methods; review discharge instructions with patient/family.
Assess community resources as indicated.
Supervise Emergency Department Technicians.
Serve as preceptor for students and employees.
Make recommendations to improve standards of care.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
Current or compact state license as a registered nurse in Iowa.
One year of RN experience preferred; new graduates may apply if they have completed a senior nursing preceptorship at Mercy Emergency or have prior emergency department tech or pre‑hospital experience.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter Abuse training within 3 months of hire.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certified within 6 weeks of hire.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) completed within 6 months of hire.
TNCC completed within 1 year of hire.
