Summary

The Guthrie Clinic’s Pulse Center provides critical support to the system through virtual care delivery, bed management, and transfer coordination. Communications technicians coordinate communication between The Guthrie Clinic Hospitals, Guthrie physicians, EMS ambulances and helicopters, referring and receiving facilities, and other health‑care agencies related to internal and external patient transfers. Responsibilities include observing and monitoring electronic safety, security, and alarm systems for Guthrie’s Sayre Campus and other Guthrie entities as requested.

Experience

Preferred: prior experience in a transfer center, emergency call center, or health care setting. Experience in multi‑functional communications, operation of monitoring safety and security electronic operations, and computer literacy and data entry/EPIC experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology and strong communication skills required.

Education

High School diploma or GED. Will consider experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Medical/Clinical Assistant, Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in lieu of education.

Licenses

Preferred: Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nurse Aide (CNA), Certified Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD), or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Essential Functions

Serve as the referral center for incoming and outgoing patients.

Coordinate communication between referring physicians, facilities, agencies, and the appropriate Guthrie physician, department, or individual.

Arrange emergent and non-emergent patient transfers across all Guthrie Hospitals. Assist other facilities or agencies with patient transfer arrangement as needed.

Monitor, receive, and coordinate communication between in‑bound ambulances and helicopters; take EMS reports or connect to Medical Command or Emergency Departments as appropriate.

Communicate with staff at internal and external entities for proper bed placement; engage in correspondence with nursing and other relevant staff members (Inpatient, Observation, Operating Room, Cardiac Cath Lab) to ensure correct patient placement.

Understand documentation/EPIC workflows and requirements for internal and external transfers.

Listen attentively and provide detailed documentation to prevent communication breakdowns during patient transitions.

Monitor safety and security systems: fire alarm panels, panic alarm systems, CCTV systems, refrigerator and freezer temperature alarms, gas alarms, and other alarms or service requests.

Complete, compile, and assure accuracy of essential data in Communications Center and Transfer Center documentation methods, forms, and databases; update and edit the Communication Center’s Referral Database.

Act as the point of contact for pre‑hospital communications during mass casualty disasters and hospital emergencies; assist in placing emergency calls, activate the hospital Command Center through the ezNotify system, and coordinate communication between area ambulances, helicopters, RPH, and other facilities in collaboration with the Emergency Operations Center.

Coordinate communication, answering services, alarm monitoring, and informational reports for groups such as RPH Security, internal transporters, Med Supply Depot, Regional CISM Team, and Guthrie Air.

Represent the organization professionally, maintain confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA, prioritize and expedite all Communication Center calls, collect patient transportation vouchers, provide information from Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), notify staff and outside entities of hospital diversion status, maintain and dispense keys for the Patterson Education Building’s apartments and on‑call rooms, contact MHMR, Coroner, and local police agencies, provide directions and maps for RPH travel, and continually strive to meet customer requirements 100% of the time.

Pay Range

$18.55 – $29.40/hour, DOE
