English Instructor, Part-time Adjunct Pool - ESCC

Basic Function
Part-time, hourly adjunct instructor position with Kern Community College District. Salary $67.00/hour. Job type: hourly. Location: Bishop/Mammoth, CA. Department: English (ENGL). Applications remain active up to two years.
Representative Duties Provide instruction in a full range of English and Reading courses. May include teaching at other campus sites, day or evening classes, weekend classes, large classes, distance learning, and use multiple teaching methodologies.
Other duties: participation in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the English department; maintain subject matter currency; develop and revise curriculum; use computer and multimedia technology; collegial participation in departmental, college and discipline-specific professional activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition
OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism
OR equivalent education, experience, and other accomplishments deemed equal. Candidates who believe they have equivalent qualifications must submit an Application for Equivalence form with supporting documents.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse student backgrounds
Degrees and credits from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Foreign degrees must be evaluated by an accredited evaluation service.
Knowledge & Abilities
Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues in an environment that promotes innovation, teaching, learning and service to a diverse student population
Ability to work with students with a wide range of skills, motivations, academic, and vocational goals
Ability to develop curriculum, including curriculum delivered via different modalities
Ability to participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges and universities
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to maintain subject matter currency
Ability to assess student learning outcomes
Knowledge of computers and willingness to explore new technologies that would benefit the program
Knowledge of and commitment to the California community college mission
