Basic Function Kern Community College District accepts applications for part‑time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. Qualified applicants will be contacted immediately if a need arises. Applications remain active for up to two years.

Representative Duties

Provide instruction in a full range of English and Reading courses.

Participate in student recruitment and articulation of transfer programs for the English department.

Maintain subject‑matter currency.

Develop and revise curriculum.

Use computer and multimedia technology.

Participate collegially in departmental, college, and discipline‑specific professional activities.

Utilize multiple teaching methodologies and teach at other campus sites; days, evenings, weekends, large classes, distance learning, and classes for incarcerated students.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition.

OR a Bachelor's in any of the above AND a Master's in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a specialization in reading, creative writing, or journalism.

OR equivalent education, experience, and accomplishments; request an APPLICATION FOR EQUIVALENCE form.

Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions; foreign degrees evaluated by an accredited service.

Knowledge & Abilities

Work effectively with colleagues in an innovative, teaching‑focused environment.

Work effectively with students of diverse skills and motivations.

Develop curriculum, including alternate modalities.

Participate in recruitment and articulation activities with local schools, colleges, and universities.

Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Maintain subject‑matter currency.

Assess student learning outcomes.

Apply computer skills and explore new technologies that benefit the program.

Commit to the California community college mission.
