Overview
The Louisiana Veterans Homes mission is to serve the Veterans' population of Louisiana by providing medical, restorative, and rehabilitative services in an atmosphere of respect and compassion. The primary goal is to deliver quality nursing care to eligible veterans, helping them reach the highest possible levels of physical and mental capacity.
Location: Northwest LA Veterans Home, Bossier City, Louisiana (Dietary Department).
Position We’re looking for a
COOK
to join our dietary team—a proactive, hard‑working team dedicated to meeting Veterans’ daily nutritional needs.
Key Qualifications
One year of food service experience in a food service operation; or
One year of training in food technology, food service management, or a related curriculum at a trade school or technical institute; or
Twelve semester hours in food and nutrition, dietetics, food service preparation, home economics, or hotel, food service, restaurant, or institutional management.

Job Duties
Plan and direct the preparation of foods, prepare and serve food as assigned on the daily production schedule; estimate food needs and adjust recipes according to production requirements.
Study and learn standardized recipes that coordinate with the menu and therapeutic diets; assume complete responsibility for serving the correct diet to each patient.
Learn patient eating area assignments and serving procedures.
Serve as lead worker to food service specialists 1's & 2's, student workers, patient workers, and community service workers in food preparation, food service, and sanitation.
Clean cooking utensils and keep kitchen, dining room, and storage areas clean.
Position‑Specific Details Appointment Type:
Probational or Promotional
Work Schedule:
8‑hour shifts, including day or evening shifts; weekends and holidays required.
Compensation:
$12.25 per hour, with eligible premium pay of $2.00 per hour worked.
