Duties Description

Welcome and assist visitors and customers, providing courteous, informed service about Museum Store products and Museum offerings.

Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system, process sales transactions, returns, and exchanges in accordance with cash handling procedures.

Maintain accurate records of transactions and ensure the security of cash and inventory.

Support inventory management, including receiving, unpacking, labeling, restocking, and organizing merchandise.

Monitor stock levels and communicate restocking needs to the Director of Retail Operations.

Assist with the arrangement and upkeep of merchandise displays to ensure visual appeal and alignment with Museum themes and seasonal changes.

Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly retail environment; perform light cleaning and organizational duties as needed.

Participate as a team member in achieving sales and service goals, maintaining a professional, cooperative work environment.

Provide information about the Museum, exhibits, programs, and visitor amenities as needed.

Contribute to special retail events, promotional activities, and collaborative Museum initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent non-competitive service as a Visitor Services Assistant 1.

Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have two years of experience* in the visitor/customer service environment in a cultural institution.

College study may be substituted for up to two years of general experience based on 30 semester credit hours being equal to one year of qualifying service.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This will be a permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of experience and/or transcripts will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. The work schedule for this position includes hours of either 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM or 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, on Wednesday through Sunday, including holidays.

This position leads to a maximum salary of $49,743 based on annual performance advances. For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
