Responsibilities The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the life cycle utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients. He/she functions within the framework of the policies and procedures of the organization and demonstrates professional growth and accountability. The staff nurse is responsible for maintaining standards of practice and coordinating patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.
Qualifications Education
Graduate from a nursing program – Required
Bachelors Degree – Preferred
Work Experience
No experience required; New Graduates of a nursing program eligible – Required
Nursing Experience in Hospital Setting – Preferred
1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions – Required
Licenses and Certifications
RN – Registered Nurse – Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure; Current license in the state of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or NLC/eNCL Multistate License. Required.
BCLS – Basic Life Support – Required
Additional Licenses and Certifications
Advanced certification in field of specialty, if applicable (see addendum)
Addendum – Specialty Certifications (required within 180 days of start date unless otherwise noted)
Cardiac Tele: ACLS Certification – Required within 180 days
Critical Care: ACLS Certification – Required within 180 days
Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) – Preferred
Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS Certification – Required within 180 days (new specialty nurses must complete within 6 months)
Infusion/Oncology: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification prior to independent chemotherapy administration – Required upon hire
Pediatrics: PALS Certification – Required at Piedmont Columbus Hospital; PEARS or PALS Certification – Required at Piedmont Athens Hospital – Required within 180 days (new specialty nurses must complete within 6 months)
Surgical Services: PreOp/PACU/ENDO/CSU ACLS; PALS if unit serves pediatric patients – Required within 180 days (new specialty nurses must complete within 6 months); BLS – Required within 180 days
Women's Services: Labor and Delivery-ACLS Certification, NRP by orientation, AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, NICU-NRP, NAT-NRP, Nursery-NRP – Required within 180 days
