Responsibilities
Provides patient care as directed
Documents patient‑related care timely within the electronic health record
Maintains patient medical records
Administers medication, including oral and intramuscular medications; may administer intravenous therapy if appropriately certified
Performs treatments
Assists with Doctor’s Sick Call
Assists with chronic care clinic management
Participates in patient care planning and treatment team activities
Responds to emergencies and provides emergency care and collection of patient data
Collects vital signs and timely documents all findings
Collects urine and/or other body fluid specimens
May perform venipuncture to obtain blood samples for laboratory analysis
Prepares patients for release and/or transfer by reviewing patient care, completing Intra‑System Transfer Summaries and/or Release Summaries
Ensures discharge medication orders are completed and forwarded to pharmacy services
Participates in work‑related training and all institution training exercises as assigned
Provides assistance to other healthcare staff
Investigates and documents problem areas and/or areas of concern
Reviews shift report from preceding shift(s)
Assists physicians with medical procedures
Assumes duties of other nurses during absences
Observes, documents and provides nursing support to assistive personnel (e.g., nurse aides, psychiatric attendants, and/or patient care assistants)
Provides patient education regarding healthcare maintenance and prevention of disease
Participates in continuous quality improvement activities
Performs and/or assists with inventory and ordering of medical supplies
Assists ancillary staff including Health Information Technicians and medical schedulers as needed to ensure patient care needs are met
Must work overtime as required
Qualifications License to practice nursing as a licensed practical nurse issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing pursuant to Section 4723 of the Ohio Revised Code; MDS certification issued by ANNAC (American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination).
