Extra Help/HE Public Safety Dispatcher – University of Arkansas System (University of Arkansas at Little Rock)
Position Details Type: Staff – Clerical, Temporary (Fixed Term), No Workstudy, No Sponsorship.
Work Shift: Flexible (includes nights, weekends, holidays).
Department Dispatch
Summary of Job Duties The extra help/HE public safety dispatcher is responsible for central dispatch to department officers and central command. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Qualifications
Formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
One year of specialized training in communications or related field.
Knowledge of communication procedures and federal rules and regulations concerning dispatching equipment.
Knowledge of communication equipment.
Knowledge of emergency response procedures and practices.
Ability to operate communication equipment.
Ability to remain calm in emergencies and gather related information.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to prepare reports of incidents and accidents.
Ability to work a flexible shift which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Operate computer consoles, video monitoring equipment and other communication devices in the public safety department to receive requests for assistance.
Identify the nature of the situation and dispatch public safety officers and/or other personnel as required.
Receive calls from monitoring companies for fire, security and environmental alarm systems and notify the proper authority.
Maintain accurate records of calls and other communications transmissions by using the methods prescribed by the Public Safety Department.
Prepare required reports, including incident reports, lost and found and any reports requested by Public Safety Officers.
Operate the Arkansas Crime Information Computer terminal in accordance with state law, ACIC rules and UALR Public Safety procedures.
Maintain contact with emergency services such as Little Rock Fire Department and MEMS ambulance with incidents arising on campus properties.
Extract and relay important and lifesaving information to and from officers and victims to the appropriate emergency service.
Answer multi‑line telephone system.
Relay calls to appropriate division/employee within the department and redirect calls not belonging to the Police Department to the appropriate University Department or individual.
Answer a multi‑line emergency phone system at the Police Department for all emergency phones on the UA Little Rock campus.
Perform related responsibilities as required or assigned.
Act as a link for coordinating the activities of field officers, security guards, student patrol and emergency responders from outside agencies.
Salary & Benefits Salary: $11.00 per hour.
