Position Overview We are seeking highly skilled and motivated Sr. Crew Chiefs/Survey Managers to join our team in 2026, to lead field survey operations for heavy civil infrastructure (highway/bridge) and power/energy projects across the United States. You will play an integral role in leading survey teams on projects ranging from $50M to $1B, working within tight tolerances and ensuring accuracy in the field.

Our Survey Managers establish and maintain safe, accurate, and efficient survey and control methods. Responsibilities include contractual requirements, design model review, and field survey operations. Expect to spend approximately 50% of your time in the field observing and instructing survey operations. The role requires strong technical expertise in surveying, team leadership, and collaboration with engineering and construction teams to ensure precision and efficiency.

Responsibilities

Oversee all surveying operations for the construction of assigned projects, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to project specifications.

Develop and implement surveying plans, methodologies, and best practices to optimize field data collection and layout; collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop plans and schedules.

Lead a team of surveyors and field personnel, providing training, mentorship, and technical guidance.

Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to ensure alignment between design intent and field execution.

Utilize advanced surveying technology (GPS, total stations, LiDAR, drones) to capture and analyze data.

Conduct quality control checks to verify survey accuracy and compliance with contractual requirements.

Manage survey data processing, ensuring integration with project management and BIM software.

Prepare and maintain detailed survey reports, logs, and documentation for project records.

Ensure all survey activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies and standards.

Maintain compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements throughout surveying activities.

Troubleshoot and resolve survey-related challenges on‑site, adapting to changing project conditions.

Use Trimble Business Center and CAD (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation) to perform calculations and key in elevations from plans and drawings.

Communicate effectively with superintendents, field crews, engineers, project managers, and clients to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and deliverables.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree preferred; Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) certification is an asset (Kiewit assists with certification if required).

10+ years of field construction survey experience, including leadership of survey crews, dimensional control, and industrial measurements.

Experience with heavy civil highway, bridge construction, power plants, water, and tunneling preferred.

Proficiency with Trimble Access/Business Center required.

Proficiency with survey equipment (GPS, total stations, LiDAR) and data collection tools (drones) required.

Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry for calculations (area, volume, circumference, proportion, percentage).

Advanced experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or MicroStation) and GIS platforms required; proficiency with MS Office Suite.

Dynamic thinker with a desire to lead, motivate, mentor, and manage team performance; self‑starter with a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.

Excellent written and verbal communication; strong stakeholder engagement and problem‐solving skills.

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally.

Accustomed to outdoor fieldwork in varied terrain and weather conditions.

Physical ability to lift equipment and perform manual tasks; strong work ethic.

Base Compensation: $90,000 – $150,000 (Actual compensation is subject to variation based on education, experience, skillset, and location).
