MC Patient Services Specialist – Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

As an MC Patient Services Specialist, you will support the smooth flow of operations in a correctional facility medical clinic and serve as the primary contact for patients before, during, and after clinic visits.
Position Description Employees in this classification receive general supervision. Most work is performed according to established procedures; problems of an unusual nature are referred to a supervisor. Work is performed in a medical clinic setting in a correctional facility and may require a high degree of contact with patients, facility staff, and other partners.
Major/Essential Functions
Schedule patients for appointments through the electronic medical record (EMR) system when needed and enter sick call requests (SCR) into EMR.
Telehealth presenter.
Check access to care through EMR.
Patient throughput management.
Ensure protected health information (PHI) is scanned into EMR.
Assist when needed in processing patients through EMR.
Schedule and complete paperwork for offender record reviews.
Effectively participate in the overall goals of the Managed Care team.
Copy records for patient liaison, attorney general, and others who are authorized to receive and/or review PHI.
Support the goal of the unit by attending meetings.
Act as courier to facilitate the EMR operation.
Perform all other health information tasks as necessary.
Required Qualifications
One (1) year customer service, office, or related experience required. Additional education may substitute for the experience requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
One year of experience with medical terminology, preferably in a clinical setting.
One year of experience using electronic health records.
One year experience working in a high‑security or regulated environment.
Experience using Microsoft Office programs.
Previous correctional experience.

Job Type & Pay Full Time – Hourly. Pay Grade Minimum: 17.00. Pay Grade Maximum: 19.00. Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
