A family office based in North Jersey is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee accounting operations across a diversified portfolio of operating entities and investments. This role will be responsible for full-cycle accounting, accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and providing ownership with clear, timely financial visibility.
Responsibilities
Own day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities, including general ledger, journal entries, and month-end close
Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Maintain and enhance internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures
Manage cash flow, liquidity planning, and banking relationships
Oversee account reconciliations and ensure accuracy across all balance sheet accounts
Coordinate with external accountants on tax filings, audits, and related compliance matters
Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to ownership and senior stakeholders
Partner closely with ownership to deliver clear insight into financial performance and key drivers
Qualifications
8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with strong private accounting background
Experience in a multi-entity environment; family office, real estate, or investment-related experience strongly preferred
Demonstrated ability to own the full accounting function with a high degree of autonomy
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
Experience working with external CPAs, tax advisors, and financial institutions
Skills & Attributes
Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational and follow-through skills
Ability to distill complex financial data into clear, actionable reporting
Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with ownership
Hands‑on, accountable, and comfortable operating in a lean environment
Professional judgment, discretion, and high level of integrity
