DEPARTMENT : Parks and Recreation
JOB SUMMARY The Aquatic Center Coordinators will be responsible for assisting the Recreation Supervisor with the training and management of aquatic staff at Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center. These staff positions include direct oversight of Aquatic Center Managers, Head Swim Team Coach, and Swim Lesson Managers; and indirect oversight of Lifeguards, Head Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, Swim Team Coaches, Guest Services Attendants, and Operations Attendants. The Aquatic Center Coordinators will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Aquatic Center operations and programming. The Aquatic Center Coordinators will also oversee facility rentals and birthday parties, as well as oversight of the front desk and admissions procedures including cash handling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assist with the training and certification processes for managers and guards
Ensure the overall safety and cleanliness of the aquatic center facility
Work closely with maintenance staff, pool managers, and public works to ensure proper maintenance and operations of the aquatic center pump room equipment; including chemical testing, follow-up, and documentation
Oversee in-service training for all aquatic staff
Oversee an effective staff work schedule for aquatic staff
Assist the Recreation Supervisor in the following processes: hiring, training, assigning, supervising, and evaluating all aquatic staff
Assist the Recreation Supervisor with payroll for all aquatic staff, verifying time adjustments
Manage pools during lap swim, open swim, swim team, and special events when scheduling conflicts arise or as deemed necessary by the Recreation Supervisor and/or the Superintendent of Recreation
Responsible for planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating all instructional and recreational aquatics programs within the Village’s goals and objectives.
Manage inventory of aquatic center equipment and merchandise items at the aquatic facilities
Assist Recreation Supervisor in the implementation and enforcement of employee policies and procedures
Be familiar with the safe operation of any equipment necessary in accomplishing required tasks
Develop detailed reports and analyses and make recommendations for continuous improvements
Comply with all Village policies, protocols, and procedures
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The wage range for this position is $25–$26 per hour. This position is seasonal and does not qualify for benefits.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position requires management responsibilities of a supervisory nature. Incumbents must be proficient in basic concepts relating to personnel management.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must be at least 18 years of age
Must be, or able to obtain by May 2026: Red Cross Certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Community First Aid and Safety
Desired certifications: Lifeguard Instructor
This position requires the following.
Three or more years of experience working in an aquatic facility setting, emergency response position, and/or related field preferred
Two or more years of supervisory experience preferred
COMPUTER SKILLS Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn how to navigate and utilize the CivicRec registration system for program rosters and Point of Sale.
LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to properly fill out incident and accident reports as well be able to communicate in an emergency situation.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITIES Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES
Understanding of the principles, practices, and objectives of Parks and Recreation administration and of the Proesel Park Family Aquatic Center
Ability to prioritize duties and complete tasks within allotted hours
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
Ability to communicate with the public tactfully and courteously
Commitment to promoting the positive image of Village of Lincolnwood
Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
Ability to maintain efficient and effective communication with supervisor and subordinates
Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
Ability to pass pre‑employment physical skill evaluation as stipulated by the department
Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
