System One is partnering with a client in the
construction industry
to hire an experienced
Project Accountant III . This role is based in
Tulsa , with required travel to
Stillwater, OK , and will support large-scale construction projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for a construction accounting professional who enjoys working closely with project teams, managing complex reconciliations, and mentoring others.
Position Overview The Project Accountant III (PA3) builds upon the responsibilities of a PA2 while taking a lead role in project reconciliations and supporting the training and development of regional accounting staff. This role works closely with Project Managers and the Director of Project Accounting to support billing strategy, financial accuracy, and project execution.
Key Responsibilities
Process and review material and subcontractor invoices for approval and entry into the accounting system
Review subcontractor pay applications (contract values, retainage, stored materials, owner-direct purchases) and communicate discrepancies
Track subcontractor insurance compliance and collect required documentation (W-9s, lien releases, certified payrolls)
Prepare and process owner billings in accordance with contract terms and company standards
Generate billing backup and reconcile billings against job cost
Perform routine reconciliations and audit reviews; identify and resolve variances
Assist with job cost budgets, billing forecasts, change management, and PSR reviews
Coordinate vendor payments with Corporate AP, ensuring compliance with company policies and pay-if-paid provisions
Support payroll processing for hourly employees
Maintain accounting and subcontractor documentation in a paperless document control system
Assist with onboarding, training, and development of regional accounting staff; may have direct reports
Provide general administrative and accounting support to project teams as needed
Required Skills & Abilities
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office; ability to quickly learn new systems
Experience working in a paperless environment
Working knowledge of
Vista ERP
or similar construction accounting systems
Excellent organizational, time management, and analytical skills
Ability to manage multiple projects with varying size and complexity
Proven ability to analyze and resolve AR/AP issues efficiently
Strong communication skills and team-oriented mindset
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent relevant accounting experience
Minimum 6 years of construction or industry-related accounting experience
