Position Summary SAMGI is seeking an
Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)
to join its
Trauma / Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care program
at Desert Regional Medical Center. This role supports trauma surgeons and critical care teams in a
high-acuity, high-volume Level I trauma and ICU environment , with opportunities to participate in both clinical care and academic activities.
The APP functions as a core member of the multidisciplinary care team, working closely with surgeons, residents, fellows, ICU staff, and consulting services.
Responsibilities
Assist in the evaluation and management of trauma, acute care surgery, and surgical ICU patients
Participate in trauma activations, surgical consults, and emergency general surgery coverage
Manage critically ill surgical and trauma patients in the ICU under attending supervision
Perform patient assessments, daily rounding, documentation, and care coordination
Collaborate with surgeons, residents, fellows, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams
Support resident and fellow education in clinical settings
Participate in quality improvement, trauma performance improvement, and program initiatives
Academic & Teaching Environment Work within an academic teaching hospital with residents and fellows.
Participate in bedside teaching and team-based education.
Engage in conferences, rounds, and structured learning activities as appropriate for the role.
Opportunities for increased responsibility or leadership based on experience and interest.
Qualifications
Licensed Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Prior experience in trauma, acute care surgery, emergency medicine, or surgical critical care strongly preferred
ICU experience highly desirable
Current or ability to obtain California licensure
BLS and ACLS required; ATLS preferred (or willingness to obtain)
Ability to obtain hospital privileges and credentialing
Practice Model Employed position through SAMGI.
Shift-based schedule within an established trauma and surgical critical care program.
Malpractice coverage provided in accordance with SAMGI policy.
Clinical, scheduling, and administrative support provided by SAMGI.
