Job Description Position Title: Heavy Equipment Operator Department: Operations Division: 7 Report to: Road Maintenance Supervisor FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt Location: Multiple
Basic Purpose Operate power equipment and perform maintenance and repair of highways.
Typical Functions
Operate heavy machinery including trucks, bulldozers, graders, cranes, backhoes, paint machines, semi‑trailers, snow removal equipment.
Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment and facilities.
Repair roadway shoulders and bridge decks.
Repair or replace signs, posts, guardrails, fences.
Provide traffic control assistance where needed.
Apply herbicide to control weeds.
Remove debris such as tires, animal carcasses, spilled items.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Safe operation of heavy equipment.
Ability to perform manual labor and maintain equipment.
Understanding of highway construction and maintenance materials.
Knowledge of highway traffic control requirements.
Effective communication with supervisors and team.
Education and Experience
Level I: No education required.
Level II: One year experience operating heavy equipment.
Special Requirements
Valid Oklahoma driver’s license; CDL Class A or B may be required.
Pass drug screening.
Work irregular hours, emergency on‑call duty.
Physically able to lift 80‑100 pounds, stand, walk, reach frequently.
