Job Responsibilities
Demonstrates the skills to perform the following tasks:
Installs and repairs ceiling grid and ceiling tile.
Installs and repairs ceramic tile.
Installs and repairs vinyl floor tile.
Installs and repairs floor sheet vinyl.
Makes repairs to all different types of walls and ceilings.
Installs and repairs different kinds of cove base.
Installs and repairs carpet. Repairs door hardware.
Minor repairs to millwork.
Repairs to millwork hardware.
Installs and repairs handrail and bumper guards.
Hangs items such as: shelves, brackets, dispensers, pictures, etc.
Replaces items such as: toilet paper holders, soap dispensers, electrical covers, etc.
Replaces light bulbs in all type of fixtures.
Minor plumbing: auguring toilet and sink traps, fixing flush valves, minor leaks, tightening packing on valve stems, etc.
Performs fire patching of all sorts.
Rebuilds sections of wall of all types.
Maintains and operates all hurricane shutters.
Maintains windows and hardware.
Maintains TV's and the controls.
Maintains all beds and stretchers.
Performs miscellaneous repairs to any equipment and furniture.
Maintains and inspects all fire hoses and fire extinguishers.
Maintains and inspects all issues related to "Life Safety".
Helps other trades as needed.
Assists in all drills and codes.
Completes Preventive Maintenance ticket with all required information legible and turns in after each shift. Performs planned preventive maintenance. Completes preventive maintenance on time according to schedule.
Completes maintenance efficiently. Performs without wasting time and material.
Updates equipment information as required to maintain equipment files.
Performs corrective maintenance as necessary.
Diagnoses problem through close inspection and testing to identify problem area as quickly as possible.
Uses inventory material and/or requests for other material according to guidelines.
Leaves work area clean with all safety precautions intact.
Advises Lead Mechanic of all difficulties and obtains help as needed.
Tests repaired equipment.
Verifies that repairs are satisfactorily completed.
Establishes and maintains effective interpersonal relationships with other hospital staff and patients.
Is knowledgeable of all tools required for the trade: tape measure, knife, saws, trowels, caulk guns, brushes, miter box, staple gun, hand tools, toilet and sink augur, drills, etc…
Demonstrates the skills to conduct "Life Safety" inspection.
Reads and follows blueprints, schematics, charts, schedules and written instructions.
Is knowledgeable of all safety tools, rules and regulations involved in the trade - OSHA, EPA, DOT, ANSI, NFPA along with all hospital policies and procedures.
Performs work in extreme conditions for short periods of time.
Estimates and orders materials and supplies for any general maintenance job throughout the medical center.
Adjusts and tests repaired equipment.
Coordinates activities of personnel repairing, fabricating, and assembling equipment.
Diagnoses repair need of mechanical devices on hospital equipment.
Interprets written instructions, drawings, and specifications and makes shop computation relating to critical dimensions, tooling, and machine tolerances in execution of the work.
Operates a variety of machinist measuring devices, hand and power tools including metal lathe, drills, saws, etc.
Fabricates replacement parts and new parts for cost effective repairs.
Is able to take a lead role in working with others. Is able to establish appropriate working relations with all levels of the organization (e.g. helpers, peers and / or management members).
Is able to initiate general maintenance jobs and conducts them in a timely and appropriately until final completion.
Maintains and inspects all issues related to "Life Safety".
Helps other trades as needed.
Assists in all drills and codes.
Qualifications
License/Registration/Certification
Possession of a valid Florida Driver License with no more than 4 points preferred. If working with hazardous substances: HAZWOPER certification required (must be obtained within 90 days of employment)
Education
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience
6 or more years working in construction or building maintenance.
