Job Description Summary
Receives assignments from Manager/Supervisor and completes all tasks as required by Supply Chain Services policies and procedures.
Assists supervisors with the daily departmental operations. Assists with the orientation and training of new employees for OR/Materials.
Maintains a cordial relationship with all team members and customers. Acts as Supply Chain's liaison and resource between Surgical Services, Central Processing Department and other hospital departments, staff members, patients, patient family, visitors and vendors.
Performs daily rounding with surgical services team leads in Main OR and Ambulatory Surgery. Ensures that case carts in the room are complete and the nurse has items needed for first case.
Works with surgical services team leads to accurately refine product availability and par levels. Executes, reviews and analyze data to assist in par level maintenance and recommendations.
Reviews daily surgery schedules to ensure that special request items, non-stock and inventory items are available for surgical cases.
Attends surgical in‑services and view surgical cases to learn how surgical items are utilized and what items are needed. Records surgeon's request on preference cards and insures items are available for future cases; obeys sterile field.
Performs daily inventory updates and adjustments through cycle counts and preference card issue processing to maintain established inventory par levels using the automated system.
Utilizes the automated Supply Chain system to process daily replenishment orders for stock and non‑stock and special request supplies.
Process receipt for supply orders. Verifies purchase orders against delivery slips and verifies quantities against materials and equipment received. Notes discrepancies and advise supervisor.
Ensures all overnight orders are given priority and delivered promptly to the charge nurse the same day of receipt. Complies with procedures established by management for overnight orders.
Promptly process receipts and refrigerate packages requiring refrigeration. Handle medical/surgical supplies and equipment on a priority basis as specified and directed by supervisor.
Rotates stock ensuring that the oldest stock is next to be used and inspects for expired items and removes expired items from stock. Reports damaged supplies and/or equipment to management and labels appropriately.
Performs inventory maintenance including the proper use of the automated inventory programs for supply replenishment, tissue and equipment tracking.
Confirms inventory by visual inspection. Reviews and reports preference list discrepancies and reports required adjustments to supervisor.
Prepares surgical services case carts using the preference card pick ticket. Note discrepancies and notifies supervisor of discrepancies. Ensures all case cart documentations are complete.
Restricts unauthorized persons from the MM/OR storeroom.
Maintains MM/OR storeroom sterility, safety and security by wearing appropriate attire, not eating in work areas, and removing all trash and debris daily.
Participates in Supply Chain Services formal year‑end physical inventories.
All other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
License/Registration/Certification: Not applicable
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience: Three years experience in hospital materials management or related healthcare field. Proficient in utilizing an automated inventory system to maintain supply inventory for surgical services.
