Position Summary
The Material Handler is responsible for operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and semi‑truck/trailer to move material around the yard safely and efficiently. Learn proper rigging and loading techniques.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company, maintaining Cooper Steel’s core priorities: Safety, Quality, Production.
Load and unload delivery trucks using overhead cranes and forklifts.
Read and understand load list to calculate material size and length when loading.
Understand units of measure and general mathematical equations.
Operate equipment/machinery and perform other job duties necessary within the shop and yard.
Transport materials using tractor‑trailer trucks.
Inspect tools and equipment daily before use and maintain them in good working order.
Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities No supervisory responsibilities.

Education & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Other Skills
Prior experience in a similar role is preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals, good judgment, ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, and ability to work effectively with others.
While performing certain duties, the employee is required to squat, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Climbing is required up to 6 feet off the ground on a ladder or loading equipment.
Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.
Work Environment Position performs work mostly in the yard setting, which includes a variety of working conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. The position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions and will require working in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
