Position Summary
The Surgery Scheduler counsel and instruct patients in regard to surgical procedures. Under the direction and supervision of the physicians, assist with ensuring quality of care while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Schedule and instruct patients regarding arrangements for surgical procedures
Interpret physician orders and findings
Coordinate doctor’s surgery schedules
Communicate with physicians and staff, as well as with patient's family physician
Handle other telephone calls related to arrangements for surgical procedures
Evaluate patient's medical history and medications under the direction of physician
Maintain knowledge of hospital policies and guidelines in regard to scheduling procedures
Coordinate appointments between patient, surgeon and family physician
Complete and process pertinent paperwork including history, consents, appointments, prescriptions and orders
Enter information into electronic medical records including EPIC, Amkai, Nextech
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other employees
Other duties as assigned
Work Relationship and Scope The Surgery Scheduler reports directly to the Surgery Scheduling Manager.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
High School diploma or equivalent
Strong working knowledge of surgical procedures and policies
Completion of medical terminology courses is beneficial but not required
Ability to work in a fast-paced medical facility while adhering to HIPAA compliance regulations
1-2 years customer service experience
Demonstrates knowledge of proper, safe, efficient usage of office equipment, computers, and software; working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Work Conditions Work is generally performed at the main clinic; 800 N. First Street, Wausau, WI. Hours of work will be dependent on the needs of the Clinic. Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting (30 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
