Job Summary A dedicated on‑site Mobile Trailer Technician II will perform certified DOT inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels and body framework. Work is performed at the customer’s site.

Duties

Preventive maintenance and repairs on ThermoKing, Carrier, and other refrigeration equipment.

Conduct DOT inspections on Freightliner and Mack trucks and trailers.

Diagnose and repair or replace compressors, coils, electrical components, and other systems.

Follow and comply with safe operating practices and procedures.

Manage parts inventory and perform periodic reconciliation.

Operate company‑issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre/post‑trip inspections.

Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.

Document work and upload pictures, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the TRAIT application.

Accurately complete DOT forms and other required documentation.

Schedule and perform all work independently, managing own daily schedule.

Respond to call‑center dispatched unscheduled service requests.

Maintain high productivity and meet standard repair times.

Obtain parts from approved vendors as needed.

Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals and estimates.

Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.

Participate in all required safety training.

Maintain good relationships with customers and vendors.

Adjust and repair trailer equipment and systems, including brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.

Diagnose, adjust, and repair equipment using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.

Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics as needed.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (or equivalent combination such as a degree or certification plus 5 years’ experience).

At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.

Possess a set of hand tools necessary for the job.

Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months.

Obtain 608/609 certification within 18 months.

Pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical (or provide a valid DOT medical card with >4 months validity).

Must be at least 21 years old.

Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.

ASE 608/609 certification

ASE T4 (Brakes)

ASE T5 (Suspension)

ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)

ASE T7 (HVAC)

Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, including design, use, repair, and maintenance.

Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods and perform moderately heavy labor.

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.

Sound judgment and analytical skills for troubleshooting and decision‑making.

Ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate solutions.
