Offer Description
In November 2025 Ghent University’s Executive Board approved the launch of 9 positions of professor, funded by the Special Research Fund. These professorships are granted the privilege of focusing primarily on research, with a limited teaching load, and are allocated to various faculties. The aim of the positions is to strengthen the research potential (in depth or in the breadth) of the faculties.
The professors, whose assignment is primarily research must attest to scientific excellence based on criteria of scientific quality, which is apparent, among other things, from publications in journals or books with international visibility and from the proposed scientific research in the research plan.
The vacancies for these professorships are advertised at the UGent-vacancy site, the Euraxess and Academic Positions sites, … and through various discipline-related sites.

The Department of Animal Sciences and Aquatic Ecology of the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering invites applications for a full‑time position of Assistant Professor (tenure track) as part of the strategic strengthening of the synergy between aquatic ecology, aquaculture and the blue economy. The new BOF‑TT mandate "Applied Marine Ecology and Integrated Aquaculture" forms the bridge between the aquatic‑ecological and aquaculture parts of the department and is complementary to the existing expertise within the Aquaculture & Artemia Reference Center (ARC), the Blue Growth Research Lab (BGRL) and Marine@UGent.
The Department of Green Chemistry and Technology of the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering seeks to appoint a full time Assistant Professor (tenure track) to focus on sustainable circular technology and the (preferably quantitative) evaluation of (environmental) sustainability in relation to the circularity of materials, such as plastics and bio‑based materials. The mission is to research and further develop sustainability evaluation methods and concepts for sustainable materials management in a circular economy, with applications in various key sectors such as food, bioeconomy, chemistry, and renewable energy, to support policymakers, businesses, and consumers.
The Department of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences seeks to appoint a full time Assistant Professor (tenure track) . The candidate will be positioned as a physician‑scientist within the Hepatology Research Unit, with the mission to strengthen and further develop pathophysiological research. The candidate will work in a complementary manner to existing research lines, including the growing focus on metabolic associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD/MASH), and will contribute to the expansion of research into both adult and pediatric hepatology. Thanks to the close integration of clinical care and research, as exemplified by the establishment of a nurse‑led NAFLD clinic, unique opportunities arise to translate clinical insights into scientific progress.
The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences seeks to appoint a full time Assistant Professor (tenure track) . The research groups within Rehabilitation Sciences and Physiotherapy—to which the new Independent Academic Staff (ZAP) member will belong—provide education, research, and community services in the following areas: musculoskeletal, neurological, pediatric, geriatric and internal disorders. The candidate is expected to develop high‑quality, internationally competitive research within one or more of these domains, with a strong interest/emphasis on future‑oriented developments in healthcare and professional practice.

The Department of Bioanalysis of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences seeks to appoint a full time Assistant Professor (tenure track) to conduct scientific research (and provide education and contracting services) in the fields of pharmacokinetics (with a focus on modelling and simulation, PBPK, PopPK) and clinical and pharmaceutical bioanalysis (using LC‑MS/MS, as (in vitro) support for pharmacokinetic projects). The candidate is open to scientific research covering the entire life cycle of medicines, from fundamental preclinical research to proper use in practice (translational).
The Department of Information Technology of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture seeks to appoint a full time Assistant Professor (tenure track) to conduct innovative and internationally recognized research in the field of hardware‑accelerated artificial intelligence, more specifically on innovative hardware approaches that are better suited to execute AI models (both learning and inference). The position is intended to further strengthen the research potential of the IDLab research group. This research group has a strong track record in innovative machine learning models and has broad experience tailoring such models for specific demanding (industrial) context.
The Department of Electronics and Information Systems of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture seeks to appoint a full time Assistant Professor (tenure track) to conduct innovative and internationally recognized research in the field of Analog Integrated Circuits and Systems Design, with a focus on modern technologies (e.g., 28 nm and beyond). The candidate has expertise in analog‑to‑digital conversion, preferably in the context of sensor readout (high accuracy) and/or telecommunications (high bandwidth). Preferably, the candidate also has experience with the co‑integration of digital functions to complement analog functions (e.g., decimation filters in Sigma‑Delta modulation) or to correct errors and imperfections of the analog circuits in the digital domain (e.g., calibration).
The Department of Electromechanical, Systems and Metal Engineering of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture seeks to appoint a full time Assistant Professor (tenure track) to conduct innovative and internationally recognized research in the field of Electrification and Its Impact on Electric Power Grids and Energy Systems. The professorship clearly falls within the "Sustainable Energy" theme of the department, but with strong links to the "Dynamic Systems" theme.
The Department of Internal Medicine, Reproduction, and Population Medicine of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine seeks to appoint a full time Assistant Professor (Tenure track) or Associate Professor or Full Professor or Senior Full Professor . The new professor will take a leading role in further developing research in precision livestock farming and will contribute to the renewal of education and clinical services in this field. This person will build bridges between traditional clinical practice and the opportunities offered by modern technology for early detection of health issues, optimization of management strategies, preventive healthcare, and the improvement of animal welfare.
