Summary Description BB&N is seeking Summer Camp Counselors for Summer Camp 2026. Group Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. The Group Counselor is responsible for planning, coordinating, and safely guiding campers in their personal growth, daily living skills, and daily activities. Our Junior Camp is made up of First through Third-grade campers. As Junior Camp Counselors, we provide emotional support and positive reinforcement, encouraging social skills, teamwork, and conflict resolution to all of our kiddie campers.
We hire both Head Counselors (College graduates or older) and Junior Counselors (must be 17 years of age) for this role. We work hard, have fun, and are positive role models for our campers. Candidates must be dedicated, responsible, and eager to make every day fun at camp.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Participate in developing and implementing high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for campers within BB&Nās mission.
Supervise campers to ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and overall well-being.
Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff. Ensuring the site's cleanliness and adhering to all safety guidelines associated with the camp program.
Positively representing the camp when interacting with parents or community members. Be a role model to campers and staff in attitude and behavior.
Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, dietary restrictions/allergies, and daily attendance.
Know and understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
Provide supervision for campers while campers are transported to and from camp or during scheduled field trips off camp property.
Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested.
Instruct campers in daily routines and cleanup tasks.
Work one-on-one with campers.
Instruct and organize camper projects (arts and crafts, dramatics, etc.).
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements, Skills, and Competencies The ideal candidate should have some experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field.
Must be 17 years of age
Must be available for training sessions on the nights of June 15th, 16th, and 17th.
Education and First AID and CPR certification, preferred.
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
Ability to observe staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate management techniques.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
Some physical requirements of a general Counselor position could be endurance, including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs.
