Electrical Engineer (Controls)
to support multi-disciplinary projects primarily in the energy sector. This role offers the opportunity to lead complex electrical and controls engineering efforts while collaborating with a highly skilled, multi-discipline team.
Location:
Duluth, MN | Minneapolis–St. Paul, MN | Omaha, NE | Houston, TX | Pittsburgh, PA | Nashville, TN . Remote candidates will also be considered.
Position Overview The Electrical Engineer (Controls) is responsible for executing the electrical engineering scope on moderate to large industrial projects. This includes leading design efforts, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, managing technical and financial aspects of projects, and ensuring successful delivery through all phases of design and construction.
Key Responsibilities
Lead moderate to large-sized electrical and controls projects, providing technical direction and decision-making on complex issues
Coordinate with multi-discipline design teams to deliver complete, high-quality construction documents
Develop power and controls drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation
Perform engineering calculations, studies, detailed designs, reports, and design reviews
Design and review complex control systems including PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation, control panels, control narratives, cause & effect diagrams, and network architectures
Design and support electrical power systems including high, medium, and low voltage systems, switchgear, MCCs, drives, emergency power, service entrances, and power distribution
Manage project scope changes, identify risks, and support development of mitigation strategies
Oversee internal staff and external contractors while maintaining schedule and financial control
Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, vendors, and contractors
Provide field support during construction as needed
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
5+ years of related electrical engineering experience
Industrial electrical control systems and/or power system design experience
Direct experience supporting industrial facilities
Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, API, and AGA recommended practices
Understanding of electrical area classification (hazardous areas)
Experience with AutoDesk software; CadWorx Electrical experience preferred
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Experience with arc flash hazard analysis and electrical equipment upgrades
Field experience supporting projects during construction
Broad electrical background including controls systems and/or motor control centers
Personal Competencies
Ability to think conceptually and drive projects from conception through implementation
Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to lead project teams
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines
Adaptability in a fast-paced, changing environment
Self-motivated with a commitment to delivering high-quality, technically sound designs
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a willingness to learn

Compensation Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary range for this position is $95,000-$132,800.
