Position Summary The Design Engineer supports the development of detailed interior, exterior, mechanical, electrical, and/or structural designs for new vessel models. This role contributes to meeting product requirements and customer expectations by adhering to established standards and available options. Responsibilities include supporting the design and documentation of marine vessel components, sourcing unique parts, and assisting with the construction of preproduction boats.
Job Responsibilities
Develop detailed interior and/or exterior part and assembly CAD models based on standard and optional equipment specifications, ensuring compliance with NMMA, ABYC, USCG, and other applicable standards, while meeting customer expectations.
Create accurate engineering drawings and specifications to source and procure components from internal and external suppliers for new model construction.
Provide CAD data to support plug construction, whether hand‑built or CNC‑machined.
Load, maintain, and manage product Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with product requirements and cost targets.
Support project objectives related to material cost, labor efficiency, weight targets, and project schedules.
Design, document, and support the construction of new vessel interior units and/or exterior assemblies, including integration with electrical and mechanical systems.
Assist in developing assembly structures and manufacturing plans for interior and/or exterior components on new vessel models.
Coordinate with Documentation Technicians to ensure accurate, complete, and usable work instructions.
Participate in resolving Corrective Action Reports and processing Engineering Change activities.
Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline required.
Minimum of two years of experience in a relevant design or engineering role.
Demonstrated ability to provide direction to shop personnel and assist with troubleshooting manufacturing issues on the production floor.
Strong computer skills with proficiency in company‑wide software applications.
Advanced proficiency in 3D modeling and CAD software, specifically SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Willingness to perform additional duties as required.
