The Medical Assistant 1 (U) performs multi‑skilled tasks to assist with patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner using evidence‑based standards of quality, safety, and service. The assistant provides hands‑on care under the direct supervision of a licensed physician, adheres to regulatory requirements and institutional policies, and demonstrates professionalism and ethical practice. The role supports the UHealth mission and collaborates with Nurse Managers, Supervisors, Charge Nurses, and other team members to deliver safe, high‑quality care.

Utilize creative methods to support patients’ individual needs while respecting spiritual beliefs, faith, and practices.
Establish a trusting relationship, create a healing climate, and provide emotional support to patients and families.
Prioritize and integrate multiple requests, completing tasks safely, professionally, and in a timely manner.
Communicate clearly and promptly with patients, families, and team members; seek assistance when needed.
Participate in unit/clinic programs and meetings, promoting positive morale and effective conflict resolution.
Leverage technology for communication, documentation, and locating clinical information.
Maintain educational knowledge and competencies aligned with current clinical practice; engage in lifelong learning and professional development.
Ensure compliance with all State and Federal regulatory guidelines, including HIPAA.
Operate within the clinical scope of practice, applying university and regulatory standards, protocols, and guidelines.
Provide constructive feedback and guidance to support growth and self‑esteem.
Assist providers with physical examinations by preparing rooms and supplies.
Understand medical and surgical asepsis; prepare patients with basic instructions on examination procedures.
Perform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document results in the patient’s medical record.
Cleans and sterilizes medical instruments using sterile technique; schedules patients for tests and completes lab forms.
Maintain accurate, complete patient records and documentation, and assist with clerical duties.
Adhere to university and unit‑level policies, safeguarding assets.

Core Qualifications Education
High School diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
Certification and Licensing
Medical Assistant certification.
Phlebotomy certification.
Active and current BLS provider card (American Heart Association).
Experience
Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes
Effective oral and written communication.
Professional composure in difficult and stressful situations.
Problem recognition, analysis, and solution skills.
Accurate and detail‑oriented task completion.
Discretion with confidential information.
Availability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
