General Description
Under the direction of the Program Manager of Counseling Services and within federal, state, and local guidelines, the
Therapist II
performs advanced therapeutic work. The therapist will provide counseling under minimal supervision, using initiative and independent judgment. The position is based in the Flower Mound office and requires travel to various Center locations. Flexible hours are allowed based on program needs and approval of the counseling program leadership.
Education, Training, and Experience
Master's degree in psychology, counseling, sociology, social work, or related human services field that meets the requirements of Licensed Professional of Healing Arts (LPHA).
Current licensing in Texas as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and/or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
Registration, Certification, Licensure, and Other Qualifications
Maintain a background and criminal history free from any disqualifying offenses per Texas Administrative Code (TAC) and Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).
Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
If holding an out‑of‑state driver’s license, obtain a Texas license within thirty (30) days.
Complete all position‑specific training within thirty (30) days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of evidence‑based therapeutic modalities (CBT, TF‑CBT, CPT, trauma‑informed approaches), ethical guidelines, confidentiality laws, HIPAA, professional standards, community and government service delivery systems, case management systems, interviewing techniques and client assessment.
Skill in crisis intervention, de‑escalation, safety planning, therapeutic counseling with individuals, families, and groups, effective communication, documentation, collaboration, time management, and organization to balance caseloads.
Ability to provide services to individuals with serious mental illness, co‑occurring disorders, and high social needs; work effectively in resource‑limited environments; collaborate in interdisciplinary teams; negotiate services; and train others.

Essential Duties
Provides face‑to‑face and telehealth sessions to individuals, groups, and families using CBT, TF‑CBT, and CPT as mandated by the State of Texas.
Conducts clinical assessments, including biopsychosocial and risk assessments.
Provides crisis intervention services, including risk assessments, de‑escalation, and safety planning following agency protocols.
Full‑time therapists complete 25 sessions per week; part‑time therapists complete 15 sessions per week.
Maintains face‑to‑face or video contact with a client’s legally authorized representative when required.
Develops individual treatment plans and assesses client support systems and community resources per HHSC guidelines.
Ensures all service documentation is submitted to the Center within two business days.
Participates in case consultations, clinical reviews, and supervision as assigned.
Provides guidance or mentorship to interns, Therapist I staff, or newer clinicians.
Maintains compliance with required training deadlines.
Collaborates on client discharge planning with interdisciplinary teams and community resources.
Complies with HHSC and Authority guidelines for all services rendered.
Records, reports, and evaluates client progress via Authority’s Progress Notes in the Electronic Health Record.
Participates in the Center’s Zero Suicide Initiative.
Supports individuals in crisis by connecting them with appropriate Center programs such as the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team, Psychiatric Triage, Crisis Prevention services, and other resources.
Provides calm support until specialized crisis staff or emergency personnel take over intervention efforts.
Participates in debriefing sessions following a crisis event to review incidents and ensure compliance with HHSC guidelines and Center policies.
