Perform dispatch functions on behalf of the EMS department(s). Coordinate requests for EMS services. Efficiently and accurately manage incoming and outgoing telephone and radio communications. Act as liaison between EMS and requestors such as police departments, fire departments, other EMS agencies, civilians, case managers, social workers, and facility representatives. Validate requestor information and associated documentation (e.g., PCS forms) and follow up on discrepancies promptly. Process 9‑1‑1 requests for service, including emergency medical call screening and pre‑arrival instructions. Provide dispatch to EMS department units and interact with EMS crews. Communicate effectively with requestors, providing updates regarding scheduling, delays, and other relevant information. Escalate concerns and conflicts to the chain of command promptly. Perform all other duties assigned by leadership. Qualifications
Required
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent. Minimum of 1 year of customer service experience in a healthcare setting, or 1 year in dispatching law enforcement, fire department, or EMS services. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms. Preferred
Experience working with case managers and insurance providers. Knowledge of county geo‑political boundaries, major highways, and landmarks. Working knowledge of the radio system and its components. Understanding of radio broadcast procedures. Familiarity with FCC Rules and Regulations. Familiarity with computer‑aided dispatch, dispatch software, UHF/VHF and other radio frequencies. Licenses and Certifications
Required
BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification within 3 months of entering position. Basic Tele‑communicator Certification within 3 months of entering position. Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification (NJ State Approved) within 3 months of entering position. Certified in ICA 100 within 6 months of entering position. ICA 200 Certification within 6 months of entering position. Hazmat Awareness within 6 months of entering position. Preferred
Emergency Medical Technician Certification (New Jersey) or Paramedic Certification. Compensation
Minimum rate: $28.26 hourly. HMH is committed to pay equity and transparency. The posted rate of pay is a reasonable good‑faith estimate of the minimum base pay for this role at the time of posting in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act and does not reflect the full value of the market‑competitive total rewards package.
