Tulane's Department of Medicine at Tulane School of Medicine invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Medicine on the Research Track. We are seeking a dedicated and innovative researcher with expertise in vitro diagnostics, biosensors, and molecular diagnostics. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing diagnostic platforms, biomarker discovery, and translational research for infectious disease and/or pulmonary disease.
The appointee will be expected to lead cutting-edge research projects, secure extramural funding, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to address critical challenges in critical diagnostics.
Key Responsibilities:
Research Leadership:
Conduct high-impact research in the areas of biosensors, molecular diagnostics, CRISPR-based assays, and infectious diseases. Develop and translate advanced diagnostic tools for pathogen detection and biomarker discovery, with a focus on tuberculosis and other infectious diseases. Lead and manage research projects, including grant writing, project execution, and reporting.
Collaboration and Mentorship:
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate fundamental science with clinical applications. Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior researchers in research methodologies and career development.
Funding and Publications:
Secure extramural funding from federal, state, and private sources to support research initiatives. Publish findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
Institutional Service:
Participate in departmental and institutional committees as required. Contribute to the academic mission of the institution through service and outreach activities.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Food Science, or a related field. Postdoctoral research experience in biosensors, molecular diagnostics, or infectious diseases. A strong publication record in high-impact journals such as Nature Biomedical Engineering, The Lancet Microbe, and ACS Nano. Demonstrated expertise in developing diagnostic platforms, including CRISPR-based assays and nanoprobe technologies. Experience securing research funding as a Principal Investigator (PI).
