Description: The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques. They produce sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation and assist with interventional and therapeutic procedures. Responsibilities include performing complex CT procedures. The technologist uses professional judgment when reviewing and obtaining patient clinical history. They ensure information is documented and scanned into the appropriate systems. Preparation, screening, and reviewing the accuracy of the contrast questionnaire with patients and family members are essential tasks. The technologist identifies and administers contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. They review patient prescriptions to verify the appropriateness of the exams. If the exam is incorrect, the technologist communicates with the Radiologist and Referring Physician for additional information or a new prescription. They are responsible for calling physicians to clarify prescriptions according to appropriate CT protocols. Verification of insurance authorized exam scripts is also required. The technologist obtains outside studies and schedules them to ensure availability for comparison by Radiologists. Providing exam copies to patients and requesting physicians or family members is part of their duties. Evaluating radiographs using the PACS System ensures that they contain proper identification and are of diagnostic value. The technologist uses consistent and appropriate techniques to gather relevant information for scanning and patient safety. Determining whether the patient is appropriately prepared for the procedure is crucial. They prepare the patient for scanning, ensuring proper shielding and immobilization devices are used. Determining the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered is part of their responsibilities. The technologist provides accurate explanations and instructions to patients in an understandable manner. They document any patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure. Performing venipuncture and maintaining IV procedures are conducted according to established guidelines. Monitoring the patient's physical condition for any adverse reactions during procedures is essential. The technologist adheres to scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends. They must lift a minimum of 25 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 50 lbs., and stand a minimum of 6 hours daily. Identifying the needs of the patient population served and delivering care specific to those needs is required. This includes communicating with patients and caregivers at an appropriate level. The technologist adheres to the standards identified in Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning is essential. An understanding of the mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware is required. A thorough knowledge of the PACS system is necessary. Maintaining CEU credits is expected. Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within twelve months of hiring. Preferred experience includes knowledge of any HIS/RIS system. A graduate of a Radiologic Technologist program is required, along with a high school diploma or equivalent.
