Job Summary
Overview of Position To assist the Lead Pre-K Teacher in providing an appropriate educational Pre-K Program. To aid an educational environment in which students succeed academically, socially, and physically in accordance with system philosophy, goals and objectives. To support and provide engaging and challenging work for students in accordance with local and Alabama Department of Early Childhood, Office of School Readiness Classroom Guidelines and Standards. To serve as a student advocate, role model, and professional resource for parents, the community, and the school system. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent (GED) and academic competency in basic skills. Must possess a Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or at least 9 credit hours of college coursework in Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution. Adequate strength and dexterity to perform all required tasks including lifting, stooping, and bending if applicable. Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable. Reports To: Principal and/or assigned Lead Teacher Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions To understand and assist in upholding school rules, policies, and procedures. To participate in the efficient and effective operation of the school as directed by the principal. To respect the confidentiality of information pertaining to students and staff. To assist in fostering positive student attitudes toward citizenship, self-discipline, morality, and patriotism. Take all the necessary precautions to provide for the safety and welfare of students. Attend and participate in individual, school, and system professional development activities. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with school staff, parents, and community. Promote good public relations for school system with the general public. Maintain the confidentiality of all school-related business Perform other reasonable duties during school necessary to the safe and effective operation of the school when assigned by the principal. Maintains and submits reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Properly uses and cares for equipment and material resources of the school system and effectively supervises and monitors students in the care, maintenance, and use of tools, equipment, and inventory. The Auxiliary Teacher must have the ability to carry out the Responsibilities and Essential Functions competently under the guidance of the Lead Classroom Teacher while planning and performing classroom instruction and duties. Demonstrate skills to collaborate with and work under the guidance of the Lead Classroom Teacher to perform the responsibilities and essential functions of a successful classroom in order to maintain a nurturing learning environment. Determines individual and class needs consistent with district and state instructional goals. Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences that comply with local and state curriculum guidelines. Delivers instructional activities in a manner demonstrating a variety of instructional techniques, promoting positive interaction among students, and providing for appropriate practice of activities and skills focusing upon the desired learning outcomes. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior that facilitate teaching and learning. Demonstrates the effective evaluation of student needs and progress by engaging in entry-level diagnosis activities, test construction, and record keeping. Becomes familiar with and facilitates/ administers State directed Pre-K assessment. Seeks assistance of specialists as needed. Participates successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Implements and follows the First-Class Pre-K Guidelines and Standards as developed by the State of Alabama Early Childhood Education Department. Models appropriate personal characteristics and work habits that are consistent with personal development and goals established for students. Demonstrates support for the system mission, goals and priorities. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and laws. Models and maintains high ethical standards. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. Reports to work in a punctual manner and attends work regularly. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s). Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations. Terms of Employment 182-day contract. Salary according to appropriate current salary schedule(s). Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated, but not limited to, in accordance with provisions of the State Department of Education and/or Pickens County Board of Education policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
