Supervised by/Reports to: Principal FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Goals: To create and provide engaging and challenging work for students in accordance with local and Alabama Department of Early Childhood, Office of School Readiness Classroom Guidelines and Standards. To assist school faculty, staff, and other school system personnel in supporting student achievement and school operations. Qualifications: High School Diploma or the Equivalent GED. Must possess a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, equivalent credential, or nine (9) semester hours of approved coursework in the field of Early Childhood Education or Child Development, Possess or be working toward a Child Development Associate Credential or an Associates Degree or higher degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or Equivalent. Must be at least 21 years of age or older. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. Ability to work with and under the direction of the lead teacher. Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions: The Auxiliary Teacher must have the ability to carry out the Responsibilities and Essential Functions competently under the guidance of the Lead Classroom Teacher while planning and performing classroom instruction and duties. Demonstrates support for the system mission, goals and priorities. Demonstrates skills to collaborate with and work under the guidance of the Lead Classroom Teacher to perform the responsibilities and essential functions of a successful classroom in order to maintain a nurturing learning environment. Determines individual and class needs consistent with district and state instructional goals. Establishes objectives and plans learning experiences that comply with local and state curriculum guidelines. Delivers instructional activities in a manner demonstrating a variety of instructional techniques, promoting positive interaction among students, and providing for appropriate practice of activities and skills focusing upon the desired learning outcomes. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior that facilitate teaching and learning. Demonstrates the effective evaluation of student needs and progress by engaging in entry-level diagnosis activities, test construction, and record keeping. Becomes familiar with and administers State directed Pre-K assessment. Seeks assistance of specialists as needed. Works collaboratively with other members of the school faculty and staff to promote student learning. Maintains a professional, cooperative working relationship with parents and community. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations. Participates successfully in training programs, professional development, or other learning to increase skill and proficiency related to job performance and leadership; attends 15 hours of the Office of School Readiness sponsored training each year plus a minimum of 15 additional hours of training offered by local or regional programs. Maintains and submits required reports, records, and correspondence in a timely and accurate manner. Implements and follows the First Class Pre-K Guidelines and Standards as developed by the State of Alabama Early Childhood Education Department. Models appropriate personal characteristics and work habits that are consistent with personal development and goals established for students. Demonstrates support for the system mission, goals and priorities. Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policies, and state and federal rules and laws. Models and maintains high ethical standards. Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters in accordance with state and federal law. Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement in areas of responsibility. Responds to inquiries and requests in a timely and positive manner. Properly cares for equipment and material resources of the school system. Reports to work in a punctual manner and attends work regularly. Reports absences and takes leave in accordance with Board policies and procedures. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor(s). Salary: Salary schedules are found on the main Escambia County Schools website. Listed below are items that may be necessary to complete your employment process in order to compute your annual salary. It is your responsibility to provide us with this requested information in order to receive your accurate salary. We need verification of previous public school teaching experience. Within the state of Alabama, experience must be verified on Supplement EXP. Outside the state of Alabama, we must have a letter (on school district letterhead) or public school district form showing beginning and ending dates stating your years of service and position held while employed. Credit is awarded for public school experience only, private, parochial, or similar experience will not be accepted. Experience must be full time at least 50%-100% of the academic year. Administrative credit will be awarded only for experience in the same position, i.e., principal for principal position as stated in the salary schedule. Transfer Sick Leave: If you have sick leave from another state school system or from another state of Alabama agency, you must have a Sick Leave Transfer form sent from your previous employer to our Human Resources department. The Escambia County Schools awards a salary based on the highest degree earned, even if the degree is outside education. The degree must be verified on an official transcript & recognized by the Alabama State Department of Education.
