Phlebotomist

Department: Emergency Services Location: Rochester General Hospital Hours Per Week: Full-Time, 40 hours/week Schedule: Day/Evening Shift

As a phlebotomist, you ensure safe and effective blood collection for accurate analysis. You serve as a laboratory liaison between patients, nursing personnel and house staff. You demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate individual patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient with all necessary information about the procedure; ensure patient is comfortable and safe
• Collect blood specimens via venipuncture and skin puncture; ensure complete and accurate specimens for testing; prepare specimens for processing and complete any associated paperwork
• Obtain the required specimens/labels and transport to specified area

Preferred Qualifications:

• PBT (ASCP) certification preferred
• Compassionate, warm and patient focused
• Exceptional communication skills and professional behavior
• Detail-oriented

Education: Licenses/Certifications: Physical Requirements: Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.
