Under general direction manages, plans, coordinates and administers permits and the activities of the Plans Examining Services Division; ensures conformance with applicable codes, ordinances and laws; coordinates the provision of building and fire inspections required in the business license process; and performs related duties as assigned. Responsibilities

Oversees and reviews plans and specifications as submitted for permitting and construction to ensure conformance with applicable codes, ordinances, and laws; ensures a consistent and uniform enforcement of the adopted code provisions; assures effective, efficient service counter operations; manages the issuance and renewal of permits; ensures that the Development Services Center service targets are met. Oversees the coordination between the Fire Plans Examination and Building Plans Examination areas to eliminate any conflicts in plan review and procedures; provides technical and managerial support. Supervises, directs, trains and evaluates Division staff; assists with complex or problem situations; organizes, prioritizes and assigns work; anticipates and solves problems facing the division, staff, administration, and customers that result from or are affected by division operations. Coordinates inter-related issues with other Department sections, other City Departments and customers; prepares policies and procedures; manages and resolves problems related to services and operations; serves as resource and advises City management on structural issues; may serve as City Building Official in absence of Supervisor. Assists with preparation of budget; coordinates issues relating to expenditure of division funds, including staffing levels, overtime, assets, supplies and operations. Serves as a City representative to various local, state, and national professional organizations, committees, and councils. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, architecture, or a closely related field Six (6) years of plans examining experience; two (2) years of which were at a supervisory level Possession of Plans Examiner Certification - ICC Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered Must possess and maintain a Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483 Nevada registration as a Professional Engineer or Licensed Architect or ability to obtain through reciprocity within one (1) year of appointment Desirable: registration as a Certified Building Official
