Role Overview As a Senior Aerial Construction Technician – Fiber Optics, you’ll lead field teams in installing, maintaining, and repairing overhead fiber optic cable. This hands‑on role requires expertise in pulling, tensioning, stranding, spacing, pole transfers, strand building, lashing, make‑readies, and equipment mounting. You will troubleshoot issues, improve operational efficiency, and mentor crew members in meeting critical project deadlines.
Responsibilities
Perform work safely in communication and energized spaces
Inspect, mobilize, and operate a bucket truck from the cab
Record and report sequential locations by operator or groundman
Frame poles and provide attachment hardware for operators, jack‑down guys, and lasher pulls
Pull cable, strand, fiber, and lash for extended periods of time
Monitor gauges to determine cable tension and pressure
Ensure proper cable tension during critical turning points and transitions
Identify and navigate crew into energized spaces
Read, interpret, and modify design packages
Oversee third‑party OPGW installation
Lead, mentor, and train field personnel
Working Conditions
Use hands, reach with arms, lift up to 65 lbs, and climb ladders, stairs, or utility poles up to 60 ft
Walk long distances and work in indoor, outdoor, and underground environments in various weather conditions
Climb poles and extend ladders weighing up to 65 lbs
Qualifications
5+ years of fiber optics experience preferred
Mastery of Aerial Construction Technician II duties
Valid driver’s license required; CDL A/B preferred
Proficiency with ladders, bucket truck, man lift, cable puller, and reel stands
Experience operating small equipment (e.g., forklift, bobcat, telehandler, skid steer)
Flagger certification required
Comfortable working at heights and confined spaces; able to climb poles up to 40 ft
Qualify as an Electrically Qualified Communication Lineman
Lead and mentor less experienced coworkers, providing technical guidance
Complete time‑and‑material documentation and safety paperwork
