Senior Transmission Engineer - Overhead Transmission Line Design Engineer

Our client is seeking a highly experienced senior transmission engineer to lead the design and execution of complex overhead transmission line projects. This technical leader will provide engineering oversight, mentor junior engineers, interface with clients, and drive best‑in‑class design practices. The ideal candidate is recognized across the industry for transmission line expertise and brings a proven ability to deliver high‑quality technical solutions from concept through construction.
Base Pay Range $100,000.00/yr – $135,000.00/yr
Responsibilities Technical Leadership & Project Execution
Lead overhead transmission line design from conceptual phase through final design, including EFM, conductor sizing, induction, impedance, losses, and voltage drop analysis.
Provide expert‑level oversight and guidance to engineering design teams; ensure compliance with standards, best practices, and project requirements.
Lead calculations for electrical clearances in accordance with NESC and applicable codes.
Conduct economic conductor selection studies, lightning performance evaluations, and grounding analyses.
Interpret and apply NERC, FERC, and regional regulatory requirements; communicate their impact to clients and internal teams.
Engineering Documentation & Review
Prepare transmission equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, bid evaluations, and purchasing recommendations.
Review vendor drawings and coordinate with suppliers, clients, designers, and other engineering disciplines.
Perform quality reviews of production drawings within multiple CAD platforms to ensure accuracy and adherence to standards.
Lead construction‑phase engineering support, including issue resolution, field inspections, testing, and design clarifications.
Project Management & Client Interface
Participate in schedule, scope, budget, staffing, and construction planning; manage change orders effectively.
Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.
Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, and partners while ensuring client satisfaction.
Support business development by identifying key pursuits, preparing cost proposals, and contributing to qualification packages.
Report project performance, cost estimates, and budget updates to project leadership.
Team Leadership & Quality Assurance
Provide mentorship, training, and technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
Ensure adherence to QA/QC processes and standards across deliverables.
Maintain effective communication across engineering disciplines.
Promote and uphold company safety policies on all projects.
Qualifications Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
or related field from an ABET‑accredited program, 7+ years of transmission engineering experience. EPC experience preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology
(ABET) plus FE certification, 7+ years of transmission engineering experience. EPC experience preferred.
Master’s Degree in Engineering
plus 6+ years of transmission engineering experience. EPC experience preferred.
Technical Skills
Expert knowledge of transmission line engineering principles, codes, and design practices.
Proficiency with engineering software such as:
AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D
BIM/Revit
PLS, PLS‑CADD
RISA‑3D, MathCAD
Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills.
Ability to conduct detailed engineering document reviews and deliver accurate, high‑quality work.
Professional Skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership experience in delegating tasks and managing large project design activities.
Strong analytical thinking, problem‑solving capability, and attention to detail.
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
Willingness to travel as needed.
Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
