Position Overview We are seeking an experienced
Controller
to lead the accounting and financial operations for our construction company in
Aurora, Colorado . This role oversees the full accounting function and partners closely with executive leadership and operations to ensure accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and strong project-level financial visibility. The ideal candidate is hands‑on and brings deep construction accounting expertise.
Key Responsibilities Financial Leadership & Reporting
Oversee all accounting operations including GL, AP, AR, payroll, job costing, and fixed assets
Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close
Prepare and review monthly financial statements and management reports
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies
Construction Accounting & Job Costing
Oversee job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage‑of‑completion revenue recognition
Review project margins, forecasts, and change orders
Partner closely with project managers and operations leadership
Provide financial insight into project performance and profitability
Controls, Compliance & Audit
Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures
Coordinate audits, tax filings, bonding, and insurance reporting
Oversee lien compliance and support cash flow forecasting
Ensure accurate working capital and cash management
Leadership & Process Improvement
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
Drive process improvements, automation, and system enhancements
Support ERP and construction system optimization (Vista, Sage, Procore, or similar)
Act as a key financial partner to executive leadership
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)
8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience
Strong construction accounting background required
Proven experience managing and developing teams
Advanced knowledge of GAAP, job costing, and revenue recognition
Proficiency in Excel and construction ERP systems
Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills
