What You’ll Do Join our dynamic Emergency Medical Services team, providing high-quality pre‑hospital care and intra‑facility patient transfers in accordance with state protocols and Loyola’s standards of excellence. Under general supervision, the paramedic delivers timely, compassionate, and clinically appropriate care while maintaining professional interaction with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Key Responsibilities
Provide emergency medical care and transport for sick or injured patients.
Perform BLS and ALS procedures as permitted by licensure and protocols.
Accurately assess patient conditions and communicate effectively with medical personnel.
Operate and maintain emergency vehicles and medical equipment safely.
Maintain accurate documentation and uphold patient confidentiality per HIPAA.
Participate in equipment restocking, vehicle cleaning, and continuing education.
What You’ll Need For This Job
Minimum Education:
Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must maintain Continuing Education per local Medical Control Authorities and the state’s Department of Consumer & Industry Services.
Contact With Others:
Co‑workers, clients, patients and families, medical personnel. Must be able to write, read and speak English fluently.
Analytical Demands:
Must be able to think and act calmly and quickly in emergency situations.
Certification, Licensure, Registration:
Illinois Department of Public Health Paramedic License in good standing.
CPR:
American Heart Association certification.
ACLS:
Current American Heart Association ACLS certification, maintained in good standing.
Critical Care Paramedic:
Must also have program certification and possess ITLS or PHTLS, PALS, and NRP certifications.
Valid IL Driver’s License.
Working Conditions Physical Effort: Lifting, climbing, pushing, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching, and otherwise maneuvering heavy patients, with stretchers and equipment (at least 250 pounds). Must pass a pre‑employment lift test.
Work Environment: Works outdoors, in weather common to the work location’s geographic area, on a regular basis. Exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
Compensation Pay Range: $18.16 - $28.14 per hour. Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
