Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Operating Room Director/Manager of Sterile Processing or designee, the OR Instrument Technician/Sterile Processing technician cleans, organizes, and wraps instruments and supplies in an approved manner to support sterilization and disinfection techniques. The role requires maintaining a high work pace, ensuring compliance with infection control policies, and working collaboratively across the Health System.
Responsibilities
Clean, organize, and wrap surgical instruments and supplies for sterilization and disinfection.
Maintain continuous readiness of instruments, ensuring accurate labeling and traceability.
Adhere to UCI Health policies, procedures, and quality standards for all processing activities.
Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with surgical teams, equipment vendors, and colleagues.
Assist in inventory management, equipment troubleshooting, and troubleshooting process deviations.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of sterilization techniques, instruments, and instrument processing.
Completion of a formal training program related to instrument processing.
Customer‑service skills appropriate to the role.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous work experience in Central Processing.
High‑school diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures, and forms.
Physical Requirements
Stand and walk for long periods of time (approximately 75% of the workday).
Dexterity, coordination, and visual and auditory acuity to perform all job responsibilities.
Ability to stoop, push carts, bend, and lift stocking supplies.
Must be free from signs of illness and infection.
