Staff Designer, MCAD
Location Parsippany, NJ
Position Profile The Staff Designer (CAD Designer) provides computer aided design and technical drawing support for new product research and development, including derivatives of our existing product lines under the direction of design engineers. The designer shall be capable of interpreting industry design and drafting standards, military specifications and company internal procedures.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Associates degree, Mechanical engineering technology degree or Electrical technology degree
6-10 years' experience working as an electro-mechanical designer
Experience with PTC Technology at least Creo 4.0 and Windchill 12.0
Experience in mechanical design, material properties, fits and finishes, geometric tolerancing (GD&T) is required
Strong PTC CREO CAD solid modeling experience and understanding of mechanical design principles
Demonstrated strong knowledge of separating operations such as turning, milling, drilling, boring and tapping metallic and polymer materials
Knowledge of fluid components, including sealing element designs, bearings and other mechanical elements, electro‑mechanical packaging, PCB design, harness design a plus.
Strong verbal/written communication skills required for multi‑faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization
Highly computer literate, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.
Must be a US Citizen
Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities
Prepare detailed 3D design layouts of complex parts and assemblies, including fits, finishes, tolerances and material selection, as requested by the project engineer.
Prepare simple design layouts of parts and assemblies, including fits and tolerances as requested by the project engineer or higher level designers.
Prepare detailed manufacturing documentation of parts and assemblies in accordance with all company and industry standards, including a thorough tolerance stack‑up to prove out design intent for fit and function.
Support the creation of a standard library of parts and features for re‑use later to support the department's needs.
Maintain existing documentation through the preparation and incorporation of ECN's and AECN's.
Effectively interpret industry design and drafting standards, military specifications and company internal procedures.
Participate in selected PDR and CDR reviews to help present design parameters.
Must be capable of performing basic trigonometry and solid geometry calculations.
Detail check assemblies and drawings to company standards, including redraws.
Be knowledgeable in the practical application of Geometric tolerances (GTOL).
Prepare fully annotated drawings of parts and assemblies from 3D assembly models.
Utilize existing Marotta hardware for new designs/redesigns, including detail searches using Marotta's business system and custom software.
Own projects from concept through production in an integrated and product development professional team environment.
Analyze designs and determine opportunities for design improvements.
Work with engineers to develop and evaluate feasibility of designs.
Apply tolerances on parts in a way that satisfies design needs while meeting manufacturing and inspection requirements (GD&T certificates preferred).
Create as‑built drawing package with a high level of efficiency.
Perform basic engineering calculations, tolerance stack‑ups, and determine proper fits of moving and stationary parts.
Additional Duties / Responsibilities
Conduct research as needed.
Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization.
Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory and internal system requirements.
Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization.
Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc., and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals.
Assist in the training of personnel to perform required technical tasks (as directed).
Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values.
Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
Physical Requirements
Regularly required to talk and hear.
Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, or crouch, and move about the facility.
May be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment
Frequently exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration.
Interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. Uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as required personal protective equipment.
Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.
Days and hours: 8 hours/day (Monday through Friday). Overtime and weekend may be required as job duties demand.
No travel is expected for this position.
