General Purpose Nurse positions are assigned responsibilities relating to providing professional nursing services, coordinating health care services, and meeting the needs of all Oklahoma County Juvenile Detention Center (OCJDC) residents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Nurses must professionally communicate medical instructions to Detention Center staff involved in providing medical services to residents.
Assist in obtaining and maintaining individual health and medical records, including information from parents/guardians and outside health care personnel.
Perform pre-employment physicals as required for all prospective OCJB employees, including vaccinations and Tuberculosis tests.
Conduct training to Detention Staff and residents in areas related to personal hygiene and health.
Administer first aid and other medical care within the limits of qualifications.
Have a good understanding of adolescent health care needs and the components of a total adolescent health care system (hospitals, physicians, pharmacy, etc.), and work with related agencies.
Maintain a consistent schedule to meet the facility's needs.
Maintain responsibility for any OCJDC issued equipment.
Attend to, facilitate, report, and document resident medical, physical and emotional needs/problems in assigned areas of responsibility.
Perform any other duties as assigned as an essential employee.

Physical Demands
Must be able to push/pull with at least 20 pounds to operate secure doors.
Must be able to occasionally lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
Must kneel/bend/crouch as necessary for filing/administrative purposes.
Must read, write, and comprehend to accomplish administrative tasks.
Must listen and communicate effectively with coworkers.
Must have clarity of vision and object manipulation to operate various computer/technology equipment.
Position is primarily sedentary (~70% sitting, 30% walking/standing).
Experience Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding of adolescent health care needs, child development, sexually transmitted diseases, suicidal risk criteria, immunizations, etc.
Understanding of components involved in a total health care system.
Ability to relate to residents with medical problems professionally, positively, and in a nurturing manner.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Maturity and judgment consistent with the high level of responsibility required.
Effective oral and written communication.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Ability to work in stressful situations.
Education Required Applicants must possess a current RN or LPN license. One (1) year experience preferred.
